HOW TO BECOME A PILOT IN INDIAN AIR FORCE (IAF):

  • The requirements to be a pilot changes from one institution to another a few of them are common.
  •  To become an IAF pilot and to serve our nation you have to choose the course which provides defense license.
  • To get license from IAF to become a pilot by entering several types of entrance exam conducted by government of India,

     AFCAT [SSC]:

  • Ø Short service commission board which annually conducts AFCAT exam.
  • Ø SCHEME: This scheme allows to be in army for only 14 years
  • Ø QUALIFICATION: candidate who has qualified through air force common admission test (AFCAT) will be sent to training for 74 weeks.
  • Ø ELIGIBILITY: Indian citizenship, unmarried and age of 19 years and 25 years, without mental illness and should possess B.E OR B.TECH.

CDSE:

  • Ø The combined defense service exam [UPSC CDS]   which is conducted twice in the year in February and September.
  • Ø ELIGIBILITY: Indian citizenship, unmarried.
  • Ø AGE LIMIT: 19 years to 23 years.
  • Ø SELECTION PROCESS: written examination, SSB interview, pilot aptitude test, medical examination.

NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY [NDA]:

  • Ø NDA exams are conducted yearly once and male candidates can apply who are unmarried and age below 20 years.
  • Ø For NDA candidates can apply after class 10 in the age of 16.5 years and until the 19 years of age.
  • Ø Should clear12 exams in the physics and math stream.
  • Ø Selection process has three rounds as follows,
  • Ø ROUND ONE:  SSB acceptance which includes visual perception, psychological stability, personal interview in round one.
  • Ø ROUND TWO: pilot aptitude test and mental stability if the candidates once fail again the person cannot appear on this round.
  • Ø ROUND THREE: consists of medical examination conducted by DGCA assigned authority.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS [NCC]:

  • Ø Candidates can enter through NCC air wing senior division “C”.
  • Ø NCC candidates who scored ‘A’ or ‘B’ in your certificate are directly called by SSB for an interview.
  • Ø Candidates who have completed their graduation with physics and mathematics as main subject and courses like B.E., mechanical engineering or B. TECH.
  • Ø AGE LIMIT: from 18 years to 23 years.
  • Ø SELECTION ROUNDS: similar to NDA selections.
  • Ø EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: candidate should have had a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering aircraft operations.
  • Ø For NDA exam class 10th pass with 50%.
  • Ø Having CPL is must.
  • Ø Each candidate should have 250 hours of ground training which is necessary to be certified as a pilot.

Ø More than technical skills candidate should have decision making, listening skills, and reactive skills are required.
