COMMON ADULTERATED FOODS IN INDIA:

·       Milk

·       Tea

·       Coffee

·       Vegetable  & Fruits

·       Honey

·       Dal

·       Spices

·       Butter and cream

·       Ice cream

·       Jaggery

CHEMICAL METHODS TO IDENTIFY ADULTERATED FOOD:

MILK:

METHOD 1: drop milk on a polished slanting surface when milk flows leaving white trial behind it, but adulterated with water flows without leaving mark.

ADULTERANT: water.

METHOD 2: add few drops of iodine solution to milk sample, if sample turns blue color it indicates the presence of starch.

ADULTERANT: starch.

METHOD 3: add equal amount of water to the milk sample, if lather appears it indicates the presence of detergents.

ADULTERANT: detergents.

METHOD 4: add pinch of soya powder and arhar powder to the milk sample and shake thoroughly and dip red litmus paper and if color changes from red to blue it indicates presence of urea in milk.

ADULTERANT: urea.

COFFEE POWDER/TEA POWDER:

METHOD 1: sprinkle coffee powder in water if it floats in water but chicory particle sinks at the bottom indicates the presence of caramel.

ADULTERANT: caramel.

METHOD 2: take sample tea powder on the paper and bring magnet near to the sample if particles sticks to magnet it indicates the presence of iron powder.

ADULTERANT: iron powder.
